Fighting For Clarity: An Interview With Ed Latimore
“The greatest challenge is the person in the mirror”
Edward Latimore is a retired professional boxer, competitive chess player, author, and influencer who writes as Stoic Street Smarts. He has a degree in physics, served in the US military, overcame alcoholism, and has extensively written on practical philosophy, self-improvement, and boxing. His forthcoming book Hard Lessons from the Hurt Business: Boxing and the Art of Life is available for pre-order now.
Ed has just turned 40, but his life story is already a remarkable tale of survival and success against the odds. Ed was born and raised in public housing projects in Pittsburgh by his emotionally abusive mother. His father was largely absent from his life.
After his “stressful and dangerous” childhood, Ed struggled to make progress, drifting from job to job and struggling with alcoholism. But Ed found a passion for boxing, and his time as both an amateur and a pro with a 13–1–1 record instilled in him the values that he’d later share through his writing — focus, determination, and no-nonsense discipline. Ed gained a degree in physics whilst training as a boxer, and later enlisted in the United States Army. He ended his addiction to alcohol in 2013.
